Stay Cozy with these Winter Crafts for Kids

As the cold weather rolls in, it’s the perfect time of year for turning on the fireplace, having a movie marathon and drinking some hot cocoa on the couch with your kids. However, once you’ve watched Frozen for the hundredth time and your kids start looking for new indoor activities, how do you keep them entertained?

This chilly season, break out your crafting supplies and beat the winter doldrums with one of these simple, at-home crafts.

Snowflake

Snowflake Craft

Skill level: easy

What you’ll need:

  • Craft pom-pom balls
  • Liquid glue
  • Construction paper
  • Pencil

Directions:

  1. Choose a color of construction paper to serve as the background for their snowflake.
  2. Sketch the lines of the snowflake on the construction paper- you may need to help your child with this part!
  3. Trace the lines with the glue.
  4. Add the pom-pom balls to the glue.
  5. Let dry for at least 15 minutes.
  6. Add a little extra sparkle to your snowflake with sequins, glitter glue, rhinestones, stickers or anything else you have in your craft box.

Snowman Puppet

What you’ll need:

  • Wooden craft sticks
  • Round cotton pads
  • Felt
  • Glue
  • Craft pom-pom balls
  • Pencil
  • Googly eyes

Directions:

  1. Grab 3 round cotton pads and glue them in a row to one wooden craft stick. Be sure to leave a little space at the bottom to be able to hold the stick.
  2. Trace a top hat, scarf, and carrot “nose” into the felt and then cut them out- you may need to help your child with this part!
  3. Now it’s time to glue everything on: add on two googly eyes, pom-pom balls as buttons and the felt top hat, scarf and carrot “nose”.
  4. Add a little extra pizazz to your snowman with some glitter or sequins.

Watercolor Snowflakes

Watercolor Doily Snowflake Winter Craft For Kids

Skill level: hard

What you’ll need:

  • Watercolor paints
  • Paintbrush
  • Mini doilies
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. On a covered surface, paint the doilies with the watercolor paints. Let the doilies dry for a couple of hours.
  2. Once dry, fold the doily into a triangle.
  3. Grab the scissors and cut shapes into the side of the triangle, cut the top off or anywhere else you want to try. Depending on where and how you cut into the doily, you’ll be creating a one-of-a-kind snowflake with a unique design.
